The 4Cs are the main factors determining the price of a diamond. They stand for Carat, Color, Clarity, and Cut. Often, customers cannot understand why the price of diamonds differs despite having the same 4C characteristics. The explanation is simple: besides the 4Cs, there are additional important parameters for assessing quality and determining price:
- Polish: The surface structure of a stone, the ‘finish’.
- Symmetry: The precise alignment of the facet tips of the crown and pavilion at the diamond’s girdle, the equator of the diamond.
- Fluorescence: A diamond with good color should ideally have no fluorescence, otherwise it may appear slightly milky in daylight. Diamonds with fluorescence often also show a bluish hue.
